Coordinating is in,  all jeans and white shirts is out!

Choose a color scheme.  I would suggest choosing three colors to play around with.  This will give you more flexibility when it comes to dressing the entire family.  It will also really make your pictures pop with color!  You want to coordinate your clothes, NOT match.  By this, I mean choose the color(s) you want to work with and find different pieces that incorporate some or all of the colors you’ve chosen. Please do not send out an email saying “Everyone wear jeans and a white shirt” and call it a day.  White tops are generally not the right choice, so I suggest staying away from white altogether unless it’s just an accent color.  Also, keep in mind that not every person has to have on every color you have picked.  Split the colors up.  It makes the photo more playful and less uniform.

Or, better yet, start with your favorite outfit. 

From there, build your wardrobe starting with your favorite and then adding in everyone else. In the image below, Chelsea  is wearing a mustard skirt that started the whole theme of their wardrobe.

You obviously want to feel comfortable and confident, but try to push yourself wear something you normally wouldn't buy.  It may be a complete disaster, but you may also find a new you! We all know that fashion is a form of self-expression, so just be the best, most flattering version of you!

Layers, layers, layers!!! 

 Layers are what make the outfit look polished and complete!  Add a vest, jacket, cardigan, bowtie, hat, scarf, suspenders, belt, etc.  This also gives the shoot much more depth! Even if it’s just as simple as adding suspenders, it adds so much more dimension to your wardrobe. Look at some of your favorite stores. I love H&M, Gap, Old Navy and Target! Etsy is also one of my favorite places to get those fun extra touches! Try and stay away from Neon colors!

Wear what you feel good in!

This goes for kids AND Mom and Dad too! If you aren’t comfortable in what you’ve chosen for pictures, it will show. If you can’t find a dress you feel good in, but you rock a good pair of skinny jeans, do that. You can always try on something different but if your don't comfortable in it then you wear what it YOU! If you don't do heals there’s no harm in doing flats. Or if your like me a cute pair of Dr. Martin boots of converse is awesome too!

Wear clothes that fit.

Wear clothes that fit well. Try to put the kids and clothes that are fitting them well at that time and not to big or baggy.

Express yourself!!

 Mix style, prints & textures. Your prints and textures don’t always have to come from your main pieces.  

Add suspenders to plain t-shirts. Let Each child wear something that expresses their own personality!

Newborn sessions. 

 I recommend you keep wardrobe simple, simple, simple for newborn photos. You don’t want the babies clothing to overshadow the baby that we are photographing . I love simple white undershirts or sleepers with simple patterns that are not too busy or bright. Keeping feet open so we can photograph little toes is always good too! When adding in siblings to newborn sessions keep them simple too! 

Choose the right shoes! 

When you have spent time putting together the cutest out fit, putting on velcro character sneakers will ruin the whole look!

Shoes finish off the whole outfit!

Converse, boots, little sandals or even bare feet are always best!
